Barber Shop Room Box

This is the second room box I have created, I started it a while ago but never finished it. Since Father's Day was coming up, I decided to finish it and name it in honor of my dad. I hung one of my favorite photos of the two of us on the wall. The first was a dress shop I named after my mom.

The design was inspired by my husband's fraternity. The furniture was a Christmas present from him few years ago. The barber doll was commissioned and he even came with a tiny pair  of working scissors!I  bought the rest of the grooming supplies on Etsy.

I used scrapbook paper for ceiling and walls. I used wood and stickers for the letters. I made the clock from a wooden appliqué that I painted with metallic acrylic paints. I used the regular dollhouse lights in the interior of the shop. I used plastic brick sheet in the inserts under the windows.

I made the barber post from paper, plastic tubing and wood caps. I with a marker I drew red and blue lines on a piece of paper and then stuffed it inside the tube. The post is it with a LED mega chip inside the plastic tube and that is connected to a battery. I cut a slit down the side of the tube to allow the thin wire of the LED to come out underneath the cap at the top. The exterior sides and back are unfinished for now. When I took these photos I had not run the wire through the small hole in the front of the building to conceal it yet.

I would like to thank Jodi over at My Miniature Madness Blog for the lovely vanity set!!!
I still can't believe I won!!! Two of my favorite colors are lavender (which is also my favorite fragrance) and mint green. I already had a mint tub (a soap dish in its former life), so I guess it was meant to be!!!

Homemade Lemon Ice Cream and BBQ Ribs with Baked Beans

I thought I would share these as we get ready for the summer, of course they are from my favorite mini food shop, CuteinMiniature. I make homemade lemon ice cream in the summer for my family. So I asked if she could make one for my mini family. She did an awesome job, as always. The ribs make me so hungry!

I Bought a Cricut Maker for Minis and More!

I thought it was just for making t-shirts and personalizing cups. I didn't really see enough creative benefits for me personally to purchase one. So this post is for other people who might be like me, trying to decide if it is worth it.

This time at home has allowed me the opportunity to watch a lot of YouTube videos. I discovered miniaturists using the Cricut Maker to create furniture and dioramas, I saw a lot of other crafts materials I never knew I could cut with it too.

The final push, it went on sale...SOLD! I was able to buy extra tools and mats also on sale from Cricut and from Amazon. I see a lot of cost and time-saving value for elementary teachers and art teachers who make and cut multiple items for student projects, letters and other items for bulletin boards. I plan to design my own projects using Adobe Illustrator.

After opening the box, you realize there is not much there to help you in terms of a guide for projects. There is free software, Design Space needed to operate it which is cloud-based, you can also download the application and projects to use offline if you have an iOS device. It does come with a free 30 day trial membership for patterns, I choose not to pay for Circut Access membership plan for projects at this time until I get more experience to see if it is worth it to me. Free patterns are available, you can buy them individually or you can design your own using acceptable file formats.

This is my favorite Cricut Maker website, https://jennifermaker.com it is great especially for a beginner like me, she has great free patterns to download if you join her site, she even has a Cricut Coach Playbook and videos, that I have found to be extremely useful.  I would have been lost without her site. I am waiting my other mats to arrive by mail to cut other types of material.

I am so excited to see what all I can do!!
