Basement Design and Layout

I am adding a basement to the Painted Lady Dollhouse nicknamed the "Frankenstein House". I'm using the left-over stairs from the original Le Chateau Dollhouse kit before it became the New Orleans Townhouse. I plan to attach the actual basement to the Painted Lady but the stairs will just bump up against the front of the dollhouse.

As always I start with a 3D foam board mock-up, I'm a visual person so I need something more tangible than a flat drawing. I created a template of the main floor that leads down into the basement as well. As you enter the hallway from up stairs to the left is the kitchen with a pantry in the rear and a door that leads to the outside. There may be a small powder room underneath the stairs. If there are stairs. I am going to have to reverse the stairs in order to give me the space I need, I really don't like looking at the back of the staircase, still working it out.

On the right of the stairs is another room which I think will be for the live-in help. The lady of the house looked like she needed some assistance around with the cooking and cleaning. They are both suppose to be maids but I didn't like the cook's outfit, so the one in grey is the cook. In addition to the dolls, I bought a couple of things for the Painted Lady Dollhouse from The Dolls House Emporium USA website but I will reveal those with the furniture.

  2. You are brave. I have a couple of houses that use a basement. I even have something that could be used as one. The thought of lifting the whole house and trying to attached has caused it to be on the back burner!

    1. Not really, the house is very light right now because it is mostly foam board. The new parts will be cut from cabinet grade wood and it will be lighter. I have a set of four wheels my mom gave me a while ago. So I have decided to place it on a a wooden platform and add the wheels so I can push it .

This is the second house with a basement that I own. The New Orleans Townhouse basement is the ground floor and like you said it is very heavy. I think it's because it is made of MDF.
